Suffolk Disability Sport and Physical Activity Strategy
Working alongside the Sport, Leisure and Culture Consultancy (SLC) as an associate, KKExcel due to their previous experience at both an operational and strategic level in the area of disability sport were asked to provide the strategic lead for this project.
Involved at the initiation of the project KKExcel, led on a successful tender and then liaised with the client from Suffolk County Council to develop a multi-agency working group, who ‘checked and challenged’ the development of the strategy from initiation to completion.
The purpose of the strategy is to capture and bring together the aspirations of partners, providers and disabled people to provide a clear strategic direction, and focus, for the development of disability sport and physical activity across Suffolk. The plan builds upon existing excellent work already taking place and sets out priority actions for the future.
It is anticipated that the strategy will act as a catalyst to provide more choice and control, personalised services and increased opportunities, enabling disabled people to lead active healthy lives and reach their sporting potential.
Duncan Wood-Allum, Director of SLC, said of SLC’s involvement in the Strategy “We are delighted to be supporting Suffolk County Council as it champions disability sport and physical activity. Nationally there is still a concern that the Olympic Legacy for all has not yet been realised and Suffolk’s leadership in this area is to be commended.â€
Adam Baker, Most Active County Project Manager, said “We are pleased to be working with SLC on this important element of the Most Active County Programme. We hope the strategy will provide a clear route map to guide the focus of all organisations with a role to play in the development of sport and physical activity for disabled people in Suffolk over the next five yearsâ€.
