Monitoring and Evaluation

Monitoring and Evaluation Workshop - The Football Association

Significant amounts of funding and resources are ploughed into the sports development industry every year but how many programmes, events and initiatives are properly monitored and evaluated? And how many people within the industry have the necessary skills to undertake such work?

With a strong commitment to ensuring the investment in grass roots football is spent wisely KKExcel, in partnership with the University of Chester were appointed by The FA to design a bespoke workshop. The primary aim of the workshop was to assist County Football Associations improve how they monitor and evaluate their work at a local level.

By designing a course that incorporated practical scenarios with the theory, delegates were able to apply the basics of monitoring and evaluation to their daily working practices. By the end of the workshop delegates came away with the following outcomes:

  •     An understanding of why monitoring and evaluation is important
  •     The ability to describe the process of monitoring and evaluation
  •     Able to identify appropriate measures of performance for their own project areas
  •     Understanding the differences between inputs, outputs and outcomes
  •     Review examples of good practice
  •     Understand the benefits of gathering and evaluating both quantitative and qualitative data

And, in addition to the above outcomes (and possibly equally important) they had a bit of fun and came away feeling enthused about monitoring and evaluation!
